Nelson Rock and Mineral Club
The gravel bars in the Motueka Valley comprise a ranger of different rock types, which change downstream as new tributary valleys feed in.
Throughout the valley, the majority of the material (80% or more) comprises sandstones and argillites greywacke), which may be considered un interesting, but actually has a fascinating story to tell. These sandstones seem to match sandstones now only found west of the Alpine Fault. |
